At this school, lunch period is considered an educational period just like math or reading
I would like to highly recommend this video for all of you. In these days the children getting too spoiled and don’t have much clue about the responsibility.
I remember years back we had a similar school farm in Slovakia and a subject called “farming/gardening”. The vegetable was planting and harvesting for our school kitchen and though we didn’t show that times a lot of interest and passion for working on the field, today I know how important it was for us. At some point I even liked to see how the tomatoes were getting ripe and I couldn’t wait the next farming class.
I would maybe keep the lunch in a different room, not in the class room, but this example of involving the children in this full process from getting and serving food to cleaning the rooms is to me a great thing.
Beside the responsibility, appreciation and good hygiene habits they will learn how to serve each other and acknowledge the hard work of adults.
